We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in the design and layout of complex automotive systems and component design, including failure analysis and verification testing.  The ideal candidate will be the one capable of working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a self-directed and professional style to get things done on schedule while ensuring that designs deliver on all customer performance and safety requirements.


Loop’s nature as a rapidly growing green-energy company will also require the successful candidate to demonstrate a strong entrepreneurial spirit to help foster a dynamic and innovative work environment.



The successful candidate will:


  • Develop designs based on requirements for medium to high volume production in cooperation with suppliers based in North America, Europe, and/or Asia.
  • Mechanical component design, development, and documentation of Fuel Cell engine components, with a focus on Design for Manufacturing and Assembly.
  • The selection process of materials, manufacturing methods, and suppliers based on functional requirements, cost targets, volumes, and timelines.
  • The support procurement process, including evaluation of suppliers and their capabilities, budget setting and forecasting.
  • Packaging and layout design of Balance of Plant components within Fuel Cell engine
  • Assists quality control process during First Article (FA) evaluation and part acceptance.
  • Creates and reviews 3D models, drawings, specifications, and related documentation.
  • Carries out other related activities and projects.





  • Degree or registered Professional Engineer in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience transferring prototypes into production parts
  • Experience with GD&T for tooled plastic, cast, sheet metal, and machined parts in medium to high volume production
  • Experience in supplier selection and management
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling using SolidWorks
  • Must be hands-on
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Some travel will be required


Considered an asset:


  • Good FMEA skills / Proven record of implementation
  • Automotive component design experiences
  • Previous application of DFMA and VE strategies
  • Structured problem-solving skills (8D, 5-Whys)
