Our rapidly growing product development team is looking for a Fuel Cell Stack – Hardware Engineer to build on our patented eFlow® technology in designing future generation stacks as we scale-up for volume production. Reporting to the Stack Team Lead, the Fuel Cell Stack – Hardware Engineer will own the hardware design from conception to product validation. Position Responsibilities:

  • Design and release ownership of the fuel cell stack compression system and fluid distribution components
  • Responsible for the structural analysis model and optimization of a stack compression system
  • Progress the current compression system design to be optimized for high volume, DFM/DFA and cost reduction considerations
  • Develop and maintain component level requirements and technical specifications; DFMEA and other advanced product quality planning tools
  • Collaborate with plate, seal, MEA, architecture, and engine team engineers through the design and development phase, achieving agreement of all interfaces and cascaded requirements
  • Work closely with procurement, quality and operations in the design progression to proactively identify, mature, and source components; negotiate component drawings, manufacturing files, and specifications with internal teams/external suppliers
  • Perform detailed design reviews and reporting of the design process
  • Develop qualification test and design verification plans to ensure design robustness to requirements
  • Support prototype builds and apply results to the design to resolve issues that impact part cost, quality, and delivery
  • Support sub-scale testing hardware development
  • Assist in preparation of technical documents including test procedures, test reports, and product manuals

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related
  • 5-10 years of experience in product design, preferably fuel cell stack hardware
  • Experience in a high-volume component manufacturing environment 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing methods (injection mounding, general machining, etc.)
  • Proficient in Solidworks modeling and drawing creation
  • Experience in performing FEA using ANSYS or equivalent software
  • Familiar with CFD analysis software such as Fluent
  • Product development skills: DFMEA, DFMA, tolerance analysis, GD&T
  • Application of structured problem-solving methods (8D, 5-whys)
  • Ability to work and multi-task in a highly technical, fast-paced environment
  • Self-starter capable of working in a pro-active manner with minimal supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good MS Office skills

Considered an asset:

  • Strong 3D CAD design (Solidworks preferred)
  • VA/VE experience
  • Experience in a high-volume component manufacturing environment
